Janaki Temple, also known as Janaki Mandir, is a Hindu temple located in Janakpur, Nepal, dedicated to Goddess Sita, wife of Lord Rama. It is believed to be built on the spot where Sita was found and connected to her wedding Swayamvar described in the epic Ramayana. The temple was constructed in 1910 AD by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh, India, who funded it with about nine hundred thousand gold coins, hence its nickname 'Nau Lakha Mandir'. It is an architectural marvel built in Koiri style with white stone and marble, adorned with intricate Madhubani paintings and engravings. Janaki Temple remains a significant pilgrimage and cultural site in the Mithila region, hosting thousands of devotees annually. The temple's history ties deeply to Hindu mythology, regional culture, and religious traditions centered on the divine story of Sita and Rama.
